  wiv
Wiv is a simple image viewer for Microsoft Windows NT/98/95 I wrote it to understand Windows Win32 drawing mechanism. I think if you want to understand a windowing system well you must write a image display software. The program supports most of the popular image formats. At this point the image looks nice on displays higher than 8 bit deep (anyone uses 8 bit displays anymore?).

I'll make the source available someday.

Usage
Put wiv.exe on your Desktop or make a short-cut on your desktop. Then you can drop any image on the icon to display. Press q to quit. From a command shell:

    c:\> wiv foo.jpg
Note: I've a version which uses ImageMagick (meaning supports more than 100 formats) sitting on my disk, I wish I had time to clean up things and release the code. If anyone wants to take over and maintain, please let me know (Mar-04-2012).
